How to Make Rabokki — Ramen Tteokbokki Timing
By Tteokbokki Curator
How to make rabokki at home: braise the rice cakes first, add ramyun for the last 3–4 minutes, and skip a full soup packet.

TL;DR
Rabokki is a timed hybrid, not leftovers plus noodles. Tteok to 80% done, then ramyun 3–4 minutes with extra stock. Use half the seasoning packet or none. Serve immediately. The recipe card is /recipes/rabokki-ramen-tteok/.
Rabokki is not tteokbokki plus instant noodles — it is a timed hybrid. Braise tteok in sauce until 80% done, then add ramyun noodles for the final 3–4 minutes so both finish together; early ramyun disintegrates, late ramyun stays raw in the middle.
Use half the soup packet or none. Tteokbokki sauce already carries salt and umami; adding a full ramyun packet oversalts and masks gochujang fruit. If you want that instant savor, add just the dried vegetable sachet and half the powder, or stir in a pinch of dashi powder instead.
Brothier is better here. Add 80–100 ml extra stock when ramyun joins because noodles absorb liquid aggressively; pull while it still looks saucy, it will tighten into a stew as noodles swell off-heat. Serve immediately — rabokki waits for no one.
Veg still belongs. Cabbage wedges and scallion added with the noodles give a fresh crunch that survives the noodle steam; sliced fish cake absorbs sauce without stealing it. Keep the add-ins simple so noodles and tteok remain co-stars.
For a feed-a-crowd sheet, boil ramyun 60 seconds short, drain, toss with a teaspoon of oil, and add to finished tteokbokki at the last minute. That par-cook trick keeps dorm-room rabokki from turning into porridge during the inevitable second helpings delay.
